Officially today is the last day the Sears Tower will be called the Sears Tower. Starting tomorrow London based insurance broker Willis Group Holdings, Ltd. will take over the naming rights and change the name to “Willis Tower”. A sad, sad day.
Instead of it being named for some insurance douches how about we just say it is named after Chicago’s favorite late son?
Gonna try something new here so bare with me. If you don’t like it let me know. Every Friday or at least I am going to try too I will give a recommendation of a album you should listen to. I would like to think you will listen to it loud with all the windows open but you know, not everyone has that ability.
Anyway on with the show!
Today’s record is Death From Above 1979’s “You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine”. Their one and sadly only record.
DFA1979 was a “dance punk” (whatever the fuck that means) band hailing from Toronto featuring Jesse F. Keeler on bass, synths, backing vocals and Sebastien Grainger on vocals, drums. They made this album, a handful of singles, a B-side/Remix record and one kickass cover of the Bloc Party before splitting up in 2006.
Jesse F. Keeler has since became one half of the electro-house megaton MSTRKRFT and Sebastien Grainger released a solo record entitled “Sebastien Grainger & the Mountains”, also recently has recorded vocal tracks for French House producer DatA.
As another reason to say “fuck you” to Chris Cornell (and please do!), the remaining members of Soundgarden reformed last night minus Cornell for the first time since 1997. The show which was a stop of Tom Morello’s Justice Tour which was at the newly reopened Crocodile Cafe. The former Soundgarden had Tad Doyle of the underated early 90s Sub Pop band TAD on vocals. Also at the same show had Mudhoney’sMark Arm singing “Kick Out the Jams” with Morello and MC5’s Wayne Kramer, and Morello singing “The Ghost of Tom Joad” with Steve Earle.
TReznor announced Street Sweeper (featuring Tom Morello and Boots Riley) will open for the last(?) nine inch nails tour which also includes the full reformed Jane’s Addiction. Dates can be found here tour.nin.com which is updated frequently. For those who want to listen to the Street Sweeper track at their discresion download it below.
On behalf on everyone, please stop making music. Listen we all loved Soundgarden. Most of us really dug that first solo album too. We gave you a free pass with the Audioslave thing because you know, the RATM guys needed a gig and while the music was boring it wasn’t awful.
But this, Chris? You are so much better than this. You wrote and sung Slaves & Bulldozers and Jesus Christ Pose! Please, we will really do anything. Hell, I’ll give you money to not make anymore music! I am pretty sure a lot of others will too. I just don’t want my memories tarnished anymore.
According to Upcoming Film Scores Daft Punk are set to do the score for the sequel to Tron, TR2N or Tron 2.0 whichever they are calling it this week.
